What this does
Many PDFs — bank statements, payslips, tax documents — arrive protected with a password you already know. Typing it every time is tedious, and many tools (including other PDF tools) can't work with encrypted files. This tool opens the file with your password and saves a copy with the encryption removed. The original file is not changed.
It can't recover or guess a password you don't know. If the password is wrong you'll be asked again.
Restrictions without an open password
Some PDFs open without a password but block printing, copying or editing. Those restrictions are removed as well, without a password. Only do this for documents you're entitled to use that way — for example your own documents or forms you need to fill in and print.
Keep unlocked copies safe
The unlocked copy can be opened by anyone who gets the file. Store it somewhere private, and use Password protect PDF if you need to send it on securely.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Decryption runs with JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your browser tab. Your files are read from your device and the results are created on your device; nothing is sent to gratistools.be or anyone else, which is also why there are no queues, daily limits or watermarks. See the privacy page.
