Where the data comes from
- Identifiers are computed locally: enterprise number, VAT number and Peppol IDs.
- Name, address and VAT status come from VIES, the European Commission's VAT validation service, which queries the Belgian VAT administration. A number that is valid but not VAT-registered (many non-profits, small exempt businesses) shows as “not active for VAT”.
- Peppol: whether the enterprise is registered in the Peppol network (SML), at which access point (SMP) and which document types it accepts.
Legal form, NACE activities, establishment units and officers are in the KBO/BCE. The KBO's public search has no free API; for bulk data, FPS Economy publishes the monthly KBO Open Data files. Decode their codes with the KBO code lookup and NACE-BEL lookup.
